We were out and about today and still ate well and had a great day!
We started out with chorizo and eggs for breakfast, a true comfort food for me. Growing up in a hispanic home chorizo was a staple and one of my most enjoyable breakfast meals. I was absolutely thrilled to find chorizo at Whole Foods and know that the ingredients are not full of artificial ingredients. Yay for keeping chorizo on the menu!
After breakfast we took a drive out to downtown NOLA to visit the Aquarium and Insectarium.
The kids and I had a great time getting to interact with the animals and insects. Both of these places are fantastic. If you’re not local to New Orleans I highly recommend making a stop at the Aquarium and Insectarium next time you’re here.
The kids favorite part is the Aquarium’s newest build, Parakeet Pointe. You can buy a feed stick for a dollar and feed parakeets from your hand. I always have to drag them out of here, they could stay all day. Don;t they look happy?!
Lunch was a crazy combination of grapes, plantation chips, chicharonnes, tuna salad…. and crickets. I packed it all, except for the crickets, and everyone enjoyed it. It was kind of funny to be sitting in the food court surrounded by people eating pizza, but none of us had a problem. It actually felt really good to be eating so well, feeling so well, and knowing that I am teaching my children well. 1 point for me!
Whenever we make over to the insectarium we make sure to eat a few crickets, and yes, they are pretty good. The kids were disappointed that the chocolate covered crickets were not whole30 approved but they still enjoyed the crispy cajun crickets. My kids, they have a love for food that’s for sure!

Dinner was leftover beef curry. As I said on Monday, we weren’t as excited about the green curry as we are the yellow curry. For tonight’s meal I added in some yellow curry and we all liked it a whole lot better. I will say though that I think we all like chicken curry the best, but it was nice to change things up with the beef. Try it and let me know what you think!
Although a simple food day, it was all delicious and full of great flavors. We’re doing well, I hope you are too!
Update: Last week Jeremiah’s blood sugar numbers were so off, staying high and such, that I was getting ready to adjust rates in his pump to manage it. I’m glad I didn’t. These last 3 days his numbers have been just about perfect. Again, I’m kicking myself for letting us get so far off the wagon and allowing his numbers to get so wacko. His numbers have now been in great range 95% of the time, and the only change has been his diet. I’m looking forward to them staying this way. I’m not in any way saying that if you have a disease, like diabetes, that this is the only way to eat. I am saying that when we eat paleo, Jeremiah’s numbers are fantastic majority of the time. It’s something to think about, to look into, to try out for yourself. It might be worth a shot to at least try the paleo lifestyle if you have the same results we do with blood sugar numbers. Let me know if you do, we would love to encourage you as you go!
