When I started eating paleo I started on my own after encouragement from a friend. A few months later I slowly started the process of bringing the rest of my family in. Thankfully for us, this has not been a “pulling my hair out” experience, but it hasn’t been the easiest either. I mean really, if I’m tempted when I see an advertisement for a caramel frapuccino from McDonalds, imagine when my kids see the same advertisement for the pink smile chicken nuggets! Life throws temptations at us all day so my job as a mom is to make tasty, new, fun foods for all of us to enjoy and be excited to eat. It’s a constant job of exploring books and recipe sites, investigating ingredient lists, hunting out new ideas, and trying to keep up with my kids ever-changing tastebuds.
Enter: Eat Like A Dinosaur
Matt and Stacy from Paleo Parents were so sweet to send us a copy of their new cookbook. I can’t say enough WONDERFUL things about this amazing book. My usual “exploration” was narrowed to one book and I didn’t need to go anywhere else. I loved the food, the hubs loved the food, and the kids loved the food. Nothing was difficult to make, the kids were able to help me with most meals, and most importantly, everything was great for our bodies. Thank you Paleo Parents for caring for my family through your book.

This “average-suburban health-nut family”, as they call themselves, has turned their lives around for the better. In order to free themselves from allergy issues, attention and self-control issues, asthma, skin issues like eczema, colic and more they removed grain and processed foods from their diet…as a whole family. They moved to a whole foods diet, “paleo”, and they are THRIVING! All of these issues are gone and they are all the better for it.
If your children (or yourself, of course) are suffering from allergies, stomach or digestive issues, skin irritations, attention problems, even irritability I urge you to take a jog down the journey that Whole Family and Paleo Parents are on. You have nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain. What if, by making simple changes in your diet, you could reverse the symptoms you, or your children, are suffering from? It’s worth a shot to try, isn’t it?
Not only that, but this book gently holds your hand and guides you through small steps you can take to get there. There are many, many tips and tricks to getting your kids to eat healthy and a bunch of tidbits of helpful info. There’s also a great animated story for the kids in the book that the whole family will love. It’s so cute and teaches a great lesson.
Matt and Stacy actually sent us our copy a long time ago and with fundraising I, regrettably, never got around to reviewing it when I would have liked to. Matt and Stacy please accept my apology for being so late. We LOVE your book and I am so excited to say just how much we love it.
……….
Okay, without further adieu, join me as we run through some of our favorite meals from Eat Like A Dinosaur but please, don’t drool on your computer.
Check out these chicken nuggets…ahem, I mean “Fool’s Gold”! Pink slime? Heck no! More like delicious, whole pieces of chicken with tasty flavors and great texture. I made a cookie sheets worth and they were gone in a flash! Everyone loved them and they are now a staple in our home.
Can you tell Shiloh was excited to have chicken nuggets back on the menu?!
Talk about the best burgers ever. The “50/50 Bacon Burgers” from Eat Like A Dinosaur are crazy good!
Does life get any better than a hamburger…with bacon??!!! Seriously, your going to want to buy this book just for this incredible recipe. It is off the hook!!! I actually make these all the time as sliders to have available for mid-day snacks. They are dee-lish!
I must say that all of these are my favorite, but this one is my favoritist of my favorites. The directions for the “Roasted Sweet Potatoes” are so simple yet, for me, profound and not something I had every thought of. I make these all the time now as a side and as a meal in itself. Love these!

“Anytime Cookies” are definitely Shiloh and Levi’s favorite. (We really do make them ANYTIME.) I can’t stress enough how simple these recipes are and how absolutely delicious they all are too. I am blown away by Matt and Stacy’s creativity in developing these recipes. Believe me, you want this book. Your kids want these cookies!!! (really…they do!)
Jeremiah is a major fan of tuna salad. He has his own tried and true recipe but he agreed to try out Paleo Parent’s recipe and we were all pleasantly surprised. The addition of a few tasty ingredients made this “Fish in a Boat” stand, well swim, far above the rest.

Not only were these fun to eat, they tasted incredible and were beautiful to photograph! Check them out!

See these smiling faces? These are the faces of children (and a half naked doll) loving “Fish in a Boat.” Jeremiah asks me constantly if he can make some more and since he’s making it, I always say YES!

For my “Fish in a Boat” I usually eat it with avocado and tomatoes, my favorite sides to tuna. I love having this available to take with us for a lunch on the go. It always hits the spot.
The most eye-opening, new, out of this world, incredible, flavorful, finger-licking good recipe was…drumroll please…. “Hissin’ Chicken”.
I wish I could tell you how to make this chicken right now so you can run to your kitchen and make a huge batch but….YOU HAVE TO BUY THE BOOK! Uh hum…. your family would really like you to buy this book to make these amazing, simple, delicious recipes. Really.
Look at this face! This is the face of pure “Hissin’ Chicken” enjoyment!!!

I had a group of girl-friends over for a bible study and served this beautiful meal including “Roast Beast” and “Greens and Bacon”. Everyone loved it and ate it ALL. This seriously is the best roast I’ve ever made. I must say, I was a bit proud of myself.
Let me also say that I don’t normally like cooked spinach but… I LOVE this spinach. It’s the perfect meal.
This picture says it all for me. Eat Like a Dinosaur’s “Lemon Dill Salmon” is a light, refreshing, healthy (even on-the-go) meal that is to die for. Well not really DIE, but come on, you get the point. It’s really good! That’s all I’m gonna say. Well, except for…buy the book.
“Goose Egg Scramble”. What more can I say? The fun name says it! This meal is fun to say, fun to make, fun to look at, and especially fun to eat! I make a huge batch of this and we eat on it for breakfast for days. What better way to start the day than with protein and starchy veggies to keep you full for hours and get your brain waves moving? Love it!
Last, but not least, “Pork Roast with Squishy Squashy Apples”. Don’t you love these fun names?! We do! Not only was this roast full of flavor, it was tender and moist and everyone loved it. Everyone loved all of these recipes and we make them all the time now!

……….

I thought the drawing was the 26th?
You’re right, I’m sorry Sarah. I had it stuck in my head that it was the 25th and didn’t want to be late. Please forgive me. With all the fundraising we’re doing over here it’s been overwhelming and in an effort to not forget to do the drawing, I jumped the gun. In another week, after our benefit night, I will be breathing easier and back to thinking clearly again!
