Our “Whole Family” had an interesting Day 9.
First of all, it’s a Monday. Doesn’t that just say it all??? Haha.
I started my morning by trying out a class at my local Crossfit gym. DANG, was it cool. I love having someone yell at me to keep working hard, I love feeling like I’m going to fall over or throw up yet not letting that stop me, I love knowing that I am doing something different and it’s doing nothing but making me look stronger, feel stronger, and be stronger. Heck ya. Crossfit has me sold. Of course, I can hardly move now, but I love it!
Marcy, Ayumi, Melanie, Pam and I all tried out the class together…at 5:30 AM! We are a dedicated bunch. Our instructor kept calling us newbies and was nicely trying to take it easy on us. She showed us an alternative to burpees in case we didn’t know how to do a burpee. Haha. If nothing else, we know how to do a burpee. Heck, we do burpees in our sleep! Halfway through the workout she was asking us who we train with. It was great. She said we were the best “newbies” she had ever seen. To say it humbly: WE ROCKED. And we did. Of course, it was hard, it was very hard, but we had good form, we had great endurance, we had great strength, and we have great umph. What is umph? Umph is that drive that keeps you going no matter what. No. matter. what. WE have umph.
Check out our WOD (workout of the day):
1000 m Row
AMRAP
(As many reps as fast as possible) (in other words we were going FAST)
First Round – 5 min
6 pull ups or 6 tricep dips

Second Round – 5 min
10 pushups
10 kettle bell lifts
(over and over and over)
Third Round- 5 min
6 Burpees
10 sit ups
50 m dash

Fourth Round- 5 min
10 jump squats
20 mountain climbers

Fifth Round:
Abs
I have no idea what all these were called but we did 3 types of ab work that were definitely challenging, but GREAT!
Whew! We left there sweating like beaten pigs and we felt ALIVE! What a great way to start the day. After a quick cup of tea at Starbucks I ran home to stuff my face with food. In these last 8 days of Whole30 I haven’t had a huge appetite. I also haven’t been working out. Wow. What a difference getting a good workout in makes. I was ravagingly hungry. Here’s my post-crossfit breakfast:
First, I ate some chicken, onions, and guacamole.
After that, I ate some leftover chicken salad with guacamole.
Since obviously all of that wasn’t quite enough (haha) I then made myself 2 eggs over easy with kabocha and guacamole.
Finally, I was full. The kids went a little more in the normal side for breakfast with eggs, kabocha, and grilled chicken.
……….
After breakfast we finally started the day. And start the day we did. Our Monday was also our first day back at school. I homeschool my kids and we are blessed enough that we get to plan when we take time off. We have been off of school now since Thanksgiving! It’s been wonderful, but it is certainly time to get back to it. So our morning was filled with 3rd grade math and Kindergarten letters. When lunch time came along I was, sadly, not prepared so here is our very sorry lunch. It was delicious…just a little sad.
We started with ham dipped in my favorite guacamole.
We moved from there to a handful of pecans.
We rounded out our lunch with an apple each. I told you it was sad! Delicious, but sad! This is why we make meal plans!!!
……….
Dinner was a lot more organized, thankfully. I made my week 2 meal plan and started following it immediately. We certainly did not need a repeat of lunch!
For dinner I made turkey fajitas in lettuce wraps with homemade coleslaw. I have never made coleslaw, I’ve never eaten coleslaw before either, so I wasn’t sure how this was going to go. I had planned on following a recipe until I realized most include sugar in their recipes. So I made something up! And go figure, my “Whole Family” couldn’t get enough!
Shiloh loved the coleslaw the most. We finally had to cut her off! I loved that she loved it.
……….
We had a great day of “firsts” on our Day 9 and it was a lot of fun! I hope your Day 9 was as much fun as ours.

can you just come move in with me for a few months. that would be great. thanks.
