Move Over Holidays | Hello Whole30!

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all had a great season of celebrating Jesus’s birth and are continuing to celebrate it.

Unfortunately, or for some of you maybe not, the Christmas season also brings along the traditional carb-filled, sugar-infested, sprinkled, iced, cheesy, creamy, breaded and fried and oh-so-good yumminess that makes the holidays the holidays.

Of course, I love all the great food as much as the other bloated guy (or gal), but, as you might have been able to tell, my stomach does not. And so, alas, my large, bloated, grumbling belly is begging me for farm raised meat, farm fresh eggs, farm grown veggies, satsumas, and …..avocados!

It’s begging me to ditch the carbs, ditch the sugar, ditch the processed foods, ditch the dairy and come back to what is GOOD!!! (Sort makes me feel like starting a whole foods riot! Can’t you just see it? Me on the picket line yelling WE WANT FARM FOOD! WE WANT FARM FOOD!)

Yes, I am laughing with you at the silliness of these food comparisons but it’s true I tell you, TRUE! I am craving the good stuff. The REAL stuff. And wether my family will admit to it or not…they are too! And so here we are…at a crossroads. Dud dud dud dud dud duuuuuud…… (can’t you hear the music? seriously, give in to the music!) Fun “Whole Family” Day in NOLA!

Every Christmas we try to do “Christmas-y” things leading up to December. Never before has that included doing anything related to exercise or health, but there’s a first time for everything! In this day and age doing things as a family doesn’t happen unless you are purposeful about it. So for this fun family day, we planned, we organized, and we made it happen. Not really actually. We really just decided to do this a few days before, or I decided, and we rushed everywhere we went, were a little on the stressed side, and were highly unorganized. Isn’t that how it happens for all of you?! (Don’t answer that.) Haha.

We started out early with a healthy, energizing breakfast of eggs, bacon, and tamales. Yes, tamales…it’s Christmas and I’m mexican after all! Then we made like reindeer and ran. Actually we drove to downtown NOLA and ran the 1 mile Reindeer Run down Canal St. as a “Whole Family”. It was so much fun!

Random…yet not…thoughts on diabetes

I have written and erased and re-written a few times now. I have so many thoughts flying around in my head they either all come out at once and splatter on my screen in a very unorganized, messy way….or they don’t come out at all and I am left sitting here dumbfounded. I have come to the conclusion after writing and re-writing that I just need to write…and let God handle the rest. So here I am.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about Jeremiah and his diabetes.
